Vibuti is traditionally applied to the forehead at the location of the 3rd eye, or Agna chakra. Other areas that vibhuti is sometimes applied is the throat and to the solar plexus area where the left and right rib cages meet, just below the heart. The Isha Foundation vibhuti is individually in small copper vessels and then left in the Dhyanalinga temple for a period of time wherein it is specially blessed by Dhyanalinga.

"Always in our tradition, ...for everything that you do, you must use the ring finger. All the nadis are activated by touching certain portions of the finger. If you want to take vibhuti or kumkum you use this finger to apply it, simply because these are all different ways to diffuse the karmic structure.
